“A simple, beautiful routine for fuller, fluffier hydrangea blooms πΈ”
Every year people ask me how my hydrangeas get so big, full, and fluffy… and the truth is, it’s actually really simple once you know what to do πΈ
If your hydrangeas don’t look like this yet — don’t worry. A few small changes can completely transform them.
✂️ Step 1: Prune HARD in Early Spring
This is the most important step.
I cut my Annabelle / Incrediball hydrangeas down to about 6 inches from the ground every early spring.
Don’t be scared to cut them back — this is what actually encourages bigger, fuller blooms.
π± Step 2: Fertilize for Bigger Blooms
After pruning, I feed them with a simple fertilizer to boost growth and bloom size.
This makes a HUGE difference in how full and lush they grow.

✂️ Step 3: Use the Right Tools
A good hedge trimmer makes this process quick and easy.

❌ Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Not pruning at all
- Pruning too late in the season
- Confusing hydrangea types (this method works for Annabelle / Incrediball)
πΈ The Result
By summer, your hydrangeas will grow back bigger, fuller, and covered in those beautiful cloud-like blooms.
